The Neanderthal behaviours of the Abric Romani was not so different during more than 30 000 years neither in terms of the occupation of space nor in terms of the accomplishment of the subsistence’s activities developed into the shelter even if it its possible to identify some changes in these behaviours. Throughout the stratigraphic sequence excavated till this moment, the two archaeological levels « J » and « M » are characterized by a high number of archaeological remains. For this reason, they are considered as two levels of reference for the stratigraphic sequence of Abric Romaní site. Macroscopic observation of the lithic assemblage of limestone in level « J » and « M » shows that the Neanderthals used a variety of limestone in which the supply varies between local and semi-local, mainly on secondary position. This procurement is characterized by a selective approach determined by the technical project of the knapper and the activities developed (lithic debitage, broken bone, wood treatment ...). Therefore, the territory of procurement of the limestone is related to the physical properties of the rock (grain type, compact, dense, resistant, aptitude for knapping) and the initial morphology of the support (size, weight and shape). As a result, it influences the modalities in which the limestone is introduced into the shelter. However, even if the distribution of limestone in the occupied area follows a general repeated pattern throughout the whole sequence, in both studied levels, it was differentiated some particularities in relation with its use for the débitage and also in relation with the spatial pattern of the rest of the archaeological remains. In fact, the choice and the role of the limestone are slightly different in the achievements of the needs and activities of the Neanderthals groups of the Abric Romaní site during their occupation of the levels « J » and « M ».

Abstract
In fact, the choice and the role of the limestone are slightly different in the achievements of the needs and activities of the Neanderthals groups of the Abric Romaní site during their occupation of the levels « J » and « M ».I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
